Hip hop Culture has evolved in every corner throughout the last decades. Hip Hop Culture was once explained through three aspects;style, breakdancing, and graffiti. However, in the last decades there has been extreme changes and misrepresentations brought about as to what Hip Hop Culture really is.
-
The messages broadcasted through media regarding Hip Hop Culture & the Black community was mostly positive. Girls were double dutching in the videos and kids would be playing at the park. A couple of women dancing but nothing to violent. Also the way they dressed were so unique and exciting.
-
I remember being a youngster watching hip hop through the media and really being interested in the way they dressed. From the all Addidas head to toe to the flambouyant wind breakers & the MC Hammer joggers (parachute pants); I loved it! It brought so much flavor to our culture. That alongside, tagging and graffiti.
-
Graffiti and spray paint used to play one of the biggest roles in Hip Hop Culture. It was a way of self expression and bringing spice. It's like you couldn't get one without the other two. All the music videos showed some sort of graffiti. It was Art.
-
Music and Art were so closely associated, but now these positive aspects of Hip Hop Culture have been replaced with more negative features. Features such as, guns, more gang representation and lots and lots of drugs. -
Drugs has always played its role in the music industry. However, the type of drugs and the amount used were completely different. Marijuana has always been promoted through hip hop culture. But today it is no longer simply marijuana. Artist are promoting everything from Molly to Exstasy. Even songs promoting cocaine use are hitting the top of the billboard. For example, "CoCo" by OT Genasis

Now you barely see hip hop even associated with graffiti unless its gang affiliated. Where the hiphop culture once showed love, most walls have been abandoned, bare, once loved but forgotten. Hence: "You loved me here" -
Ofcourse they styles and trends change as time progresses but the way it changes still matters! Todays Hip Hop artists wear pants off their butts and such criminal-like clothing. Not even close to as unique and outgoing as it used to be. Everyone's a follower now.
-
Modern artist mimic eachothers styles sounds and messages in their works. Most music videos consist of being in the studio doing drugs and degrading woman. As opposed to traditional hip hop that were dancing all the time and idolized woman. Although woman still are sex icons.
-
It's depressing the road that Hip Hop Culture is walking . Hip Hop is not what it is thought to be today. It originated on positivity, culture, and similarity. Unfortunately it has evolved into violence, negativity, and selfishness.
